A group of people go around New York City painting all the adverts white. What they did was illegal and some of them got arrested. The point they were trying to make is that there is far too much billboards and posters around us and they are everywhere we go and we just don’t need them. It would be a nicer place to be if they were blank canvases or without any adverts as we could see the city for itself.
New Volkswagen Polo Advert 2011
This advert is a great example of showing us that we are surrounded by advertising no matter what we do or where we are. They are invading our personal space and this advert is a perfect example of showing it. The woman is walking along a street when a man passes by holding up a newspaper with the Polo advert on it. Both try and pass each other on the pavement but can’t as they move the same time blocking each other from passing. In a way it looks as if it’s trying to catch the womans attention with the newspaper advert. The woman isn’t interested in the paper as she is trying to pass but once she looks down she reads the advert. Once she has read the advert she looks onto the road and sees the new Polo car passing by and immediately remembers the advert and connects it with the car. It then seems as if the woman is interested in bying the car as she has just seen how much of a good offer it is and she’s being invaded by the Polo adverts.

No Advertisements in the ‘Echo Liverpool’ 24.03.11
This is the final outcome for our group work project. We bought 40 ‘Echo’ newspapers and scribbled all the adverts out with black markers. We then gave them for free to the public and asked them what they thought about the idea and advertising in newspapers.
